    • 1872 was especially difficult for Frances. Her brother, John Haviland Bedell, died Sept. 25. Her son, John Haviland Horton, was born 2 days later on Sept 27. He was no doubt named for his uncle. Little more than a week later, on Oct 5, her daughter Ana died at age 14.
