  • Notes
    • The Story of Amalia Gröebling and William Meyer, as told by her daughter Amelia Meyer Gronholz to Barbara Steinbauer:

"Amalia Gröebling lived in Germany, in the Alsace Lorraine region. She was being raised by her grandfather. William Meyer became acquainted with Amelia but her grandfather disapproved of the relationship and sent her to live at a convent. When William came looking for her, the grandfather told him that she had died. William Meyers left Germany, immigrating to New York. Meanwhile, Amalia learned to cook at the convent and took a job with a physician, his wife and children. She traveled with the family to America, the ship arriving in New Orleans, Louisianna. Amalia made her way to New York where she found William and they were married about 1868."
    • (Research):I have 2 postcards from Breisach to Amalia Meyer and a book of photos of Breisach, taken by a photographer in Freiburg, which is about 12 miles south east of Breisach. -S Gray
