| Notes |
- Mabel filled in for the organist at the Silent Movie Theatre (Strand Theatre?) in White Plains.
"There was an apple tree on the neighbors' property behind the house at 62 Robertson Avenue. Grandma Mabel Horton would 'suggest' to her husband that she wanted to make an apple pie. Grandpa John Horton would say to Jack (with a big smile and raised eyebrows) "Grandma wants to make a pie...." , Jack's cue to raid the neighbors tree." - Jack Coon 2007
"Grandma Horton crocheted 6" rounds and sewed them together to make potholders. She would chew on her lip and talk to herself the whole time, it drove us crazy. She would send us out in the neighborhood to sell the potholders for $1 apiece. Sometimes people would say "I don't know..., how about 50 cents?". We would have to run home and ask her if the price was OK. She would ask "Who wants them for 50 cents?" If she approved of the person, we'd run back to make the sale."
Jack Coon - Jan 2008
Mabel thought she needed medicine. The Doctor gave her 'a gallon jar' full of colored candy placebos that she believed were medicine. She would take them at regular intervals every day.-Jack Coon Apr 9 2008
Barbara Coon remembers exactly which corner of the living room the TV was at 184 Chatterton Parkway in 1955 (near the back door, next to the sun room) , because she remembers Mabel waving and saying goodnight to Gracie Allan on the George Burns Show. Mabel believed Gracie could see and hear her just as she could see Gracie. 5/30/08
